College junior Doreva Belfiore, treasurer of the LGBA, said Monday that a man at the dance approached the door where LGBA members were collecting entrance fees. The man grabbed a fistful of cash and ran out the door, she said. Belfiore added that an LGBA member chased the man down to 34th and Walnut but was unable to catch him. The LGBA reported the crime to the University and Philadelphia police departments. University Police Lieutenant Susan Holmes said Monday that the man was described as a black male, five foot, six inches tall, 19 years of age, and wearing a dark jacket with yellow and red stripes on the back. Belfiore said she did not think that the LGBA had been targeted for a theft but rather that the person stole just for the money. "We don't feel this was a homophobic incident," she said. "We feel this was just for the money. We are only making this public because we feel that students and organizations should take all the necessary precautions due to the increased crime on campus." -- Elie Landau
