The conference, which is titled "Visions of Society: Perspectives of the Social Sciences," is being sponsored by the Univeristy's Program for Assessing and Revitalizing the Social Sciences. In addition to Smelser, featured speakers include: Kenneth Boulding of The Institute of Behavioral Science at the University of Colorado, Boulder; Amitai Etzioni, a sociologist at George Washington University; Lawerence Rosen, an anthropologist at Princeton University; Amartya Sen, an economist at Harvard University; Ann Swindler, a sociologist at the University of California, Berkeley; and William Foote White of the New York School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University.
