Memorial Day In Philly

It's one of those summer weekends where most of the city slickers slip away to country/ beach/ vacation homes. Out of the smog and traffic, lazy bathing suit clad loungers pity those left in the city. But hark! There's so many patriotic (and bizarre) things to do in Philly this weekend! Check out our suggestions after the jump. If these all fail, you can always just break into a hotel pool or something.

Police on Highrise Field — An email written by a student was circulated within the past half hour stating that "Police are pointing guns at two suspects on the ground at highrise field. Avoid, please."  We're unsure of what exactly went on but the police cars have left 40th and Locust and sources say that it's safe to walk hear the Highrises now. Got any info? Silent Protest Against Racism Happening Now On The Green

In reaction to a DP column about racism students have been silently protesting racism at Penn on the Green since noon. Inspired by the Day of Silence, protesters created a movement (and a tumblr) entitled We Belong and will remain silent for the rest of the day. All members of the Penn community, regardless of race, are encouraged to join while wearing all black.
