Gov. Rick Scott of Florida officially asked Yale University to move to the Sunshine State, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.

The invitation followed the announcement that Connecticut lawmakers were considering a proposal to tax the university’s $26.5 billion endowment. Scott urged Yale to relocate to the sunshine state, promising that Florida would not tax the school's profits.

Yale politely rejected the offer. “It’s wonderful to be recognized as an outstanding asset, but Yale, New Haven, and Connecticut have been on common ground to great mutual benefit for 300 years,” said Yale spokesman Tom Conroy in a statement.

Others were less flattered by the request. “Most people think its pretty ridiculous,” Yale senior Tyler Blackmon said to The Washington Post. also saying that Governor Scott has “spent his entire career denying the kind of research that comes out of these kinds of institutions.”
