Fionn Adamian, 2018

UA College Representative

My name is Fionn Adamian and I’m running for College Representative. I’m a freshman from the DC area majoring in Political Science and English. Ever since I was in high school, I have been passionate about social justice issues. Whether it’s working at a nonprofit organization for DC Congressional voting rights, or tutoring elementary school students, community service is always an important part of my life. I hope that I have the opportunity to bring that experience to the Undergraduate Assembly. If elected, I would work to expand a dialogue on Penn’s campus about sexual assault and race, two issues that are extremely important to me. Above all, I would do my best to serve as an intermediary between students and the school. While we often think that it’s difficult to affect Penn’s policies, I believe that the UA is an amazing conduit to change the school for the better.

Ray Clark, 2017

UA College Representative, UA Vice President

Hey Quakers! My name is Ray Clark and I’m running for Vice President of your Undergraduate Assembly! I’m currently on the Social Justice Committee and I also serve as the Legal Services Coordinator of the body. Why am I running though? Because ever since I stepped foot on campus, I knew Penn was home. My love for this institution is unparalleled and I want to be the one to advocate for you as a university family.

There are lots of problems that need solutions and I’m the guy to fix them. I want to incorporate more student voices into conversations of mental health, increase civic engagement with our neighboring West Philadelphia community, advocate for resources for victims of sexual assault, provide resources for transitioning international/transfer/undocumented students and most importantly bridge the gap between campus communities that usually don’t interact. If you believe in these things, then Vote Ray for UA!

Tunmise Fawole, 2017

UA College Representative

Hello, my name is Tunmise Fawole, and I am running for reelection as an Undergraduate Assembly College Representative. When looking around Penn, there are so many issues that still need to be addressed by the student body. In my time at Penn, I have made sure to branch out and really explore the different sub-communities at Penn. This is what makes me apt to be one of your College Representatives; learning how to adapt to something totally different will allow me to bring a fresh and interesting perspective to the UA, while still representing your fabulous ideas. In the College, there are so many different types of people with wonderful ideas and it is important that they are adequately represented and advocated for on the UA.

Thanks and remember: Vote Tunmise (Too-mi-shay) for the UA!

Natasha Galperin, 2018

UA College Representative

My name is Natasha Galperin, and I am a freshman planning to major in economics and health and societies. I am running to be a College Representative in the Undergraduate Assembly (UA). I hope to help initiate change within the Penn community in the following arenas: philanthropy, social justice, and student advocacy. Specifically, I want to centralize and unify campus philanthropy efforts in order achieve a more meaningful impact. If elected, I hope to work with the social justice committee on their upcoming campus initiative that focuses on sexual assault education. Finally, I plan to work to provide all students on campus with a voice, which I will achieve through facilitating open communication among various student groups.

Emily Hoeven, 2018

UA College Representative

This year on the UA, I hit the ground running with several major projects. My first week at Penn, I realized that nightlife culture is less welcoming if you don’t drink. To change that, I’ve been working with administrators and student groups to create a coffeehouse-style space on campus open Fridays and Saturdays where students can hang out, eat, and have fun sans alcohol. I am spearheading the effort to create PennFaces, a school-wide website dedicated to resilience through art. It will feature videos, photographs, artwork, and writing wherein students can discuss issues they face—and thus deconstruct the seeming necessity to constantly put on the “perfect Penn face.” The website is launching soon. If reelected, I will continue fine-tuning these projects and begin others. I plan to create a diverse student committee to help run PennFaces and establish better sanitation practices in dorm bathrooms. Read more at emilyforua.strikingly.com.

Justin Hopkins, 2018

UA College Representative

Hi, everyone! I’m Justin Hopkins, and I’m a Freshman in the College. I’m from LA, but no, I don’t have blonde hair, any surfing skills, or a killer beach body. What I do have, however, is a plan to satisfy your appetites for better leadership, cheaper services, and delicious food. This past year on the UA, I helped create an off campus recycling guide, increase the number of campus water bottle refilling stations, install a new lockout key system, and bring condoms to vending machines. Now, I plan to build on this progress. This year, I hope to install Dining-Dollar access at popular campus eateries, like Wawa. Also, I want to make services, like printing, more affordable and accessible to students. Above all, though, I aspire to be the best possible promoter of your needs. Thank you, and remember, a vote for Justin is a vote for food, services, and advocacy.

Daniel Kahana, 2017

UA College Representative, UA Vice President

This is a critical time for Penn. After spending two years on the UA, most recently as Student Life Director, I am well aware of the amazing opportunities at our university. I am also cognizant of the vast deficiencies that exist in our community. Mental health issues and sexual assault affect too many students at Penn, and the university’s response to these issues are blatantly lacking. On the UA, I have already tackled these issues and taken meaningful steps to improve our campus. I co-published the Wellness Guide, making clear to all students the resources available for mental health on campus, and spearheaded Penn’s first ever Yoga Day, providing stress relief free of charge. As your Vice President, mental health and sexual assault prevention will continue to be my top priorities. I would be privileged to have your vote.

Michael Karam, 2017

UA College Representative

Hello! I am Michael Karam, a rising junior in the College, and I’m running to return as your Undergraduate Assembly Representative. As a member of the UA over the past year, I have gained a deeper understanding of student life and social justice issues. I want to put all the experience I have gathered to become an even better UA College Rep. I worked on several projects related to international student issues, mental health, and communication between the UA and the student body, among others. This year, I want to continue working on increasing resources for international students and mental health awareness among Penn students. I also want to continue fostering a strong and representative relationship between the UA and the student body. I would love your renewed support and trust in my capabilities to continue to work for YOUR needs!

Hannah Kim, 2018

UA College Representative

Hi, my name is Hannah Kim, and I am a freshman running for the position of Undergraduate Assembly (UA) SAS Representative. Four years ago, I discovered a quote that wrote “to be in this world is not to merely survive, but to embrace and flourish.” I try to live my life by this saying, and it is my hope to help Penn do the same: to embrace its student body and to exceed all expectations of success. Some initiatives I hope to bring about include longer dining hours, increased guest swipes, and non-exclusive GSR reservations. I also fully support the UA’s focus on mental and physical wellness. Being a member of the UA would enable me to directly advocate for changes that benefit all of you as Penn students. Smile for peace; Laugh for happiness; Vote for Hannah.

Aaron Litchman, 2018

UA College Representative

Hi! My name is Aaron Litchman. As your Undergraduate Assembly Representative, I will work tirelessly to make the UA more personal and in touch with the student body -- to make it truly your UA. I won't promise flashy and impossible reforms like "getting dining dollars at Wawa" (although that would be great). Instead, I promise to ask as many of you as I can about the improvements that you would like to see in your community, along with some important and attainable goals of my own. One such goal is to streamline the accounting process that currently makes it difficult to utilize funds for extracurricular clubs. I will accomplish this by working with SAC to approve purchase cards for treasurers of clubs to get the items they need. I have many more ideas, and look forward to dedicating myself to the UA on behalf of my peers. Thank you!

Aidan McConnell, 2016

UA College Representative, UA President

Hi, my name is Aidan McConnell and I am running for President of the Undergraduate Assembly. It’s evident that Penn has been through a lot this year. From mental health concerns to student protests, our successes in making Penn a better academic environment have come from the grassroots—passionate, organized attempts to expand student voice and presence in the issues that matter most to us. Along with my running mate Bill Ding, I envision a UA that harnesses the determination of each student to directly shape university policy, implementing a PennHelp chat room/discussion service for campus services via Canvas or PennMobile and expanding IMPACT magazine’s engagement initiatives by creating working groups for any students interested in drafting issue-specific resolutions. By opening up Penn Student Government to the individuals it is intended to represent, we can ensure that, as the 2012-2013 slogan read, the Undergraduate Assembly is “working for you!”

Jane Meyer, 2016

UA College Representative

Penn is an amazing place to learn, live, and grow. Penn isn’t perfect though, and I am running for President of the Undergraduate Assembly because I want to continue to improve this place we call home. Having served as the Communications and Social Justice Director of the UA, and through my involvements in religious, political, and greek life on campus, I have the experience necessary to understand the issues that are relevant to you and the communities you are a part of.

As President, I will ensure the UA advocates for your interests to administrators and works on impactful projects. My top priorities include 1) Ensuring the successful implementation of the Penn Anti-Violence Educators program 2) Protecting open expression in the classroom 3) Providing a diverse range of solutions to improve mental wellness. Go Higher with Meyer!

Victoria Meyer, 2018

UA College Representative

I’m Victoria Meyer and I want to represent you on the Undergraduate Assembly. I am passionate about intellectual exploration, food systems, and communication. I will take action to offer more pass-fail credits, so students can explore new academic areas, while reducing the stress and limitations that an overbearing workload promotes. As a member of the Dining Advisory Board, I want students to have a greater say in what food options are contracted on our campus and to offer the Green To Go reusable plastic containers in more retail dining locations to reduce waste. And finally, I hope to create a public speaking class. I believe that our school cultivates great influencers and communication is fundamental to success in any field. I am enthusiastic, sociable, and approachable, so I believe that I will be able to represent your concerns as well as the issues I am passionate about.

Dorothy Newman, 2018

UA College Representative

My name is Dorothy Newman and I am running to be a College Representative on the UA. I am currently involved in a number of extra curricular activities including Dischord A Capella and various community service initiatives run by Penn Hillel. In addition, I love writing, public speaking and working with others to make a difference. I have had the opportunity to meet some current members of the UA to discuss ideas that I feel can make a great impact on the undergraduate experience at Penn. This inspired me to run, in order to be able to work on both advancing some of the preexisting UA initiatives as well as proposing some original ideas related to mental health care accessibility and academic life improvement. I wish all of my fellow candidates good luck, and look forward to the rest of the election season!

Peter Ohazuruike, 2018

UA College Representative

My name is Peter Ohazuruike and I am a student in the College of Arts & Sciences Class of 2018. I am running for the SAS Representative position of the Undergraduate Assembly. If elected into this position, I plan to take into account the dynamic capacity of which Penn's undergraduate body portrays. In accounting for this capacity, I will not only be able to take into account the constantly changing goals and aspirations of the general student body, but I will also be able to perceive what arising problems and improvements can be made. Thus, in this position, hope to make dynamic improvements to the Penn we know today; and with your help, the Penn of tomorrow can be something unimaginable by any of today's standards.

Sola Park, 2018

UA College Representative

Is Penn perfect? Absolutely not. Can we can make it better? Absolutely. My name is Sola Park and I am running for re-election as your SAS UA Representative. This past year, I served as a freshman representative on the Social Justice and Communications committee. I was involved in many projects regarding West Philadelphia-Penn relations through organizing College Day, international student integration through planning for an international student guide, mental health awareness through contributing to the Wellness Guide, and transparency of the body through increasing communication between students and the UA on social media accounts. I also served as the Social Chair, which helped to form a more cohesive body. As your SAS representative, I will continue to represent the diverse communities at Penn and bring relevant issues to administration to advocate for you and your interests. I ask for your continued support. Remember—don’t ride solo and vote for Sola!

Andrew Robertson, 2016

UA College Representative

To me, the UA was not and will never be a ‘political organization’; its sole purpose is to represent, advocate, and deliver tangible results to students. As Speaker over the last year, I have been able to make several internal improvements to the body as well as complete several tangible projects, such as the creation of the Commission on Alcohol Safety and Communication, which has now guaranteed a certain number of registered fling events and will be disseminating useful information regarding fling in the coming weeks. If elected again, I will also work on securing better summer financial aid options to even the academic playing field, increasing the accessibility of penn's services such as dining and transit, as well as tackling the cultural disconnect between Greek life and minority communities.

Nathaniel Rome, 2018

UA College Representative

Hello SAS Students!

I am honored to currently represent many of you on the UA. This past year as a UA Representative, I’ve taken tangible steps on important issues such as course registration, advising, veterans affairs, student health insurance, and college requirements. I would like to continue to make progress on these important issues and others, which is why I am proud to run for re-election on the UA!

If re-elected, I promise to continue finding tangible solutions to serious issues and tirelessly advocating student interests to the administration. I encourage you to view my voting record on the UA website (PennUA.org) and feel free to contact me at nrome@sas.upenn.edu if you have any questions about my record from this year or my goals for next year.

Thank you and enjoy your Spring!

Ivan Sandoval, 2017

UA College Representative

Hi everyone! My name is Ivan and I'm a sophomore, in the College, studying Science, Technology and Society. I have decided to run for UA College Rep because I want to increase transparency surrounding Penn tuition, advocate for the continued funding of student groups, and help freshman students find their community at Penn. Having previously served as the Chair of Admissions for the Latino Coalition, I hope to be an advocate of the 5B coalition of minority groups, in order to ensure that a more diverse range of students is represented on the UA. Whether it’s through Quaker Days, pre-orientation programs, or NSO, we need a Penn that future students can love. I believe the UA is the appropriate medium to have these concerns addressed, and, if I am elected, I promise to make your voices heard.

I would like to improve Penn for students in many different ways. I will continue to work to improve mental health on campus and making Penn a less stressful environment. I would also like to support what you want.

Michelle Xu, 2018

UA College Representative

As a new student representative on the Undergraduate Assembly this past year, I have taken on many roles and gained a firmer understanding of how our student body runs. As a member of the Dining, Sustainability, and Facilities committee, I have looked into the closure of our dining cafes and looking into more sustainable opportunities for our campus. On the communications team, I have diligently worked on keeping the student population up to date on not only UA projects, but also important events on campus through social media. Currently, I am working on getting lectures recorded on nationally recognized holidays. Given Penn's diverse and driven community, this improvement could really facilitate our education. I would love to continue dedicating myself to working to better our school if you re-elect me!
