Penn men's basketball coach Fran Dunphy has yet to announce whether he will take over the vacant head coaching position at La Salle University.

Over the last few days, rumors regarding possible press conferences at La Salle have persisted on fan message boards of both schools, but nothing has come to pass as of this point. In its Aug. 7 edition, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that La Salle offered a six- or seven-year deal that would pay Dunphy between $350,000 and $400,000 per year. This would be a significant increase from his current salary at Penn.

Dunphy, who graduated from La Salle in 1970, would also enjoy a sizeable recruiting budget, with reports stating that there will be an increase from the school's expenditures in years past. If he turns the offer down, the second choice is reportedly Maine coach John Giannini, who also interviewed for the job in 2001 when Billy Hahn was hired. Hahn resigned July 24 in the midst of sexual assault allegations against some of his players.

Dunphy could not be reached for comment yesterday, and Dunphy has not spoken with any other media for some time.
