An on-line listing of area concerts has the veteran rap trio set to hit Penn. Could Run DMC "walk this way" in April? According to the World Wide Web site http://www.pollstar.com -- which posts concert information on the Internet -- the rap group that became famous in the '80s will play at Hill Field for Spring Fling on April 16. But student planners said that while they have been looking into bringing the group to Penn, there is not currently an agreement to have Run DMC perform. "[We] can't deny that we've spoken with their agent," said Wharton junior Jonathan Herrmann, co-chairperson of the concerts subcommittee of the Social Planning and Events Committee. Insisting that SPEC has put no offers out and no contracts have been signed, Herrmann claimed the band was "never being considered as the primary headliner," although he said that they could be considered as a co-headliner. "That information on the Web isn't accurate," Herrmann said. "While it appears from the Web that they are playing the show, we are not in negotiations with them to do so. There are no outstanding offers or contracts with Run DMC or anyone else." Herrmann said the information on the Web must have been released by the band's agent. He said the agent was under "many false assumptions" regarding Run DMC's possible performance at Spring Fling. The band's agent was not available for comment. Run DMC performed at the 1994 Fling concert, along with G-Love and Special Sauce and Mudhoney, in a show headlined by Cypress Hill. The format of this year's concert is still uncertain, with concert planners unable to confirm whether the event would feature one headliner and an opening band or several bands with equal billing. Historically, Spring Flings have featured both concert formats. "Our goal is to get the show confirmed as early as possible," Herrmann said. "There's no deadline -- when someone that we want says 'yes,' [then we confirm the show]." And the venue for the concert has yet to be confirmed. Although concert planners said they hope to hold the annual event on Hill Field, they have yet to fill out the necessary paperwork. SPEC is considering the Palestra as a possible location in the event of rain. The information on pollstar.com lists Hill Field as the site of the concert. Run DMC was formed in 1982 by Joseph "Run" Simmons, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell. Their first single, "It's Like That" was released in 1983 and became a Top 20 R&B; hit. Their last album, Down With the King, was released in 1993.
