The Hamilton House event resulted in two student "couples." What is your kinkiest experience or what would you like it to be? What would be your ideal date? What is your favorite movie and why? These were just a few of the questions asked by potential suitors during the Hamilton College House, also known as High Rise North, version of The Dating Game television show last night. As students cheered for their favorite contestants, HRN residents reenacted the old game show in the basement Rathskellar Lounge. The event -- the first late-night "Penn p.m." program in HRN -- drew a crowd of about 120 people. "The purpose [of the Penn p.m. program] is to have social events that do not have alcohol," said HRN Graduate Assistant Ken Grcich, a first-year student in the School of Social Work who coordinated the event. With music cranking in the background, pre-selected student-contestants played the game and drank Shirley Temple mocktails. Separated by a white curtain, contestants could only hear each other's voices when asking and answering questions designed to pair students off with their perfect match. College freshman Matt Caporaletti, one of the participants in the game, explained that he "saw a sign in the 10th floor lounge and thought it was a really cool idea" because "it gives you a chance to not act like yourself." The winners of the game, if they choose to go out together, will have the first $20 of their date paid for through the program. Philip Schwartz, an Engineering and College sophomore and one of the winners of the first game, said he thought the Penn p.m. program was a good idea. "One of my roommates doesn't drink at all but he has a car so he can go do things. Lots of people don't have that opportunity," he explained. And while love may not have blossomed with Schwartz and his co-winner, Wharton sophomore Jennifer Hunsucker, she explained that the event was important because "it makes the building into more of a college house atmosphere." For the second lucky couple, a date may be more likely. Winner and College sophomore Josh Wilkenfeld said he would like to go out with his co-winner, College freshman Antonella Lavelanet, and take her to "the finest food truck in West Philadelphia." Wilkenfeld said he got involved in the game because his RA "harassed" him about it and "caught him in a moment of weakness." Each week, the Penn p.m. program will host dry events in an attempt to bring together students from each of the college houses. Next week, HRN is sponsoring a trip to the musical play Rent, while other college houses have events and trips planned for the future.
