The Interfraternity Council announced last March it was looking to introduce a diversity chair position to its executive board. Spring break is now in the rearview mirror, and graduation is just around the corner. The job market, somewhat surprisingly, has remained strong, which makes it all the more likely that many seniors have already found jobs. If you are a senior who does not have a firm plan for next year, it may seem like everyone you know has a job, a graduate school acceptance, or a fellowship all lined up. This is especially true at a school like Penn, where so many students wrapped up their job search during the fall semester, when popular industries like banking and consulting make their offers.

It’s no secret that most Penn students want to be the next Elon Musk. I know I do. But as venture capitalist and entrepreneur Peter Thiel wrote in his book, “Zero to One,” every moment in business is singular: “The next Bill Gates will not build an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergey Brin won’t make a search engine. And the next Mark Zuckerberg won’t create a social network.”
