A car was found flipped over in front of Hillel early Friday morning.

At about 1:20 a.m., Penn Police observed a man unaffiliated with the University speeding down 39th Street toward campus, according to Division of Public Safety spokeswoman Stef Cella.

The man "crossed over Walnut Street onto the marked pedestrian walkway and struck two concrete bollards in front of Hillel, causing his car to overturn,” Cella wrote in an e-mail. The car has since been removed.

Wharton junior Kristen Kinstrey did not see the crash occur, but did see the aftermath from her apartment in Harnwell College House.

"It took probably a half hour to get the guy out of the car and onto a stretcher," Kinstrey said. "There were probably around eight [emergency medical services] employees around the stretcher."

Kinstrey also noted that DPS “did a good job of keeping students away from the scene,” though some were still watching from Rodin field.

The man was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for medical treatment and arrested for driving under the influence, Cella wrote — adding that he did not sustain any injuries. No other injuries were reported.
