The Division of Public Safety and Office of Information Systems and Computing will conduct a test of the UPenn Alert Emergency Notification System today.

The test, which is completed annually, will begin at 3:30 p.m. and will span all delivery methods included in the UPenn Alert system — electronic messages, the new siren system and DPS’ web site.

Anyone registered with the UPennAlert system will receive a text message, which will reiterate that it is only a test. Users do not need to respond to the message.

At the same time, Penn’s Siren Outdoor System will emit a 15-second siren alert.

The UPennAlert system, launched two years ago, is intended to reach students and faculty in an emergency situation via text messages, e-mails and phone calls. The Penn Siren Outdoor System was put in place this summer.
