Sports Brief | Alumnus a tight fit as new football coach

Mark Fabish is coming home.

After graduating from Penn in 1997, the former receiver served coaching stints at Monmouth and Rhode Island.

But now he's returning to 33rd Street, as he was officially named Penn's new tight ends coach Tuesday.

"It has been a long-time goal of mine to get back to the University of Pennsylvania," Fabish said in a Penn Athletics press release. "I'm excited to have the opportunity to be a part of the program again, and to work with five coaches that I played under is quite an honor."

Fabish won Ivy League titles in 1993 and 1994 as part of current head coach Al Bagnoli's first recruiting class.

He earned All-Ivy honorable mention his senior year, and he is still Penn's all-time leader in both career punt return and kick return yardage.

The position of tight ends coach was previously vacant, although Bagnoli was theoretically in charge of the unit.

One of Fabish's early challenges will be to replace departed senior TE Josh Koontz, who was second on the team with 235 receiving yards.
