Sports Update | W. Lax earns second win over Cal, 10-2

The Penn women's lacrosse team trounced California, 10-2, but may have suffered a long-term casualty in the process.

Sophomore attack Bridget Waclawik had to be helped off the field near the end of the first half with an injury that appeared serious.

"We don't know exactly, it didn't look good," coach Karen Brower said. "If it is an ACL, we will know clearly on Monday."

Penn started slowly as Cal came out strong and dictated the pace. But with 16:36 left in the first half, freshman Erin Brennan scored the game's opening goal, and the floodgates opened.

Junior Emma Spiro score three first-half goals, including one with seven seconds left, to give Penn a 5-1 lead at the break.

Juniors Courtney Lubbe and Ali DeLuca also scored a pair of goals each, as Penn extended its lead to 10-1 with 12:18 left to play before coasting the rest of the way.

No. 6 Penn will be back in action at Franklin Field next Friday at 6:30 when they take on No. 9 North Carolina.
