Keiffer Garton shined under the lights of Princeton Stadium on Friday night. In his first career start, the sophomore signalcaller rushed for one touchdown and threw for another, propelling the Quakers to a 14-9 victory over the Tigers on national television.
One day later, Yale upset Brown, 13-3, setting up a three-way tie atop the Ancient Eight. Harvard easily rolled over Columbia, 42-28, putting the Bears, Crimson and Quakers at 4-1 in conference play with two games remaining.
Ailing senior quarterback Robert Irvin did not even make an appearance on the stat sheet, as Garton finished with a game-high 89 yards on the ground in addition to his 132 yards on 16-of-21 passing.
Mike DiMaggio ran for 74 yards on 18 carries, while Penn's defense was able to contain Princeton tailback Jordan Culbreath, who managed just 57 yards. The Quakers also held the Tigers to a 3-for-10 third-down conversion rate and 25:33 of possession.
