There's no time to rest for Penn women's swimming.

Despite a bevy of injuries, a season-opening loss to Columbia last Sunday and only a six-day break between meets, the Quakers have to gear up for a tri-meet with Princeton and Cornell this weekend.

And regardless of the short amount of recovery time, practices this week have remained grueling.

"We aren't even thinking about resting," junior freestyler Amy Reams.

Penn coach Mike Schnur said he is "looking forward to seeing how we do really tired."

That will make it only more challenging to beat the Tigers, who feature many of the swimmers from last year's squad who beat Penn, 184-113. Those returners include junior standout Alicia Aemisegger, who competed in the Olympic trials this summer.

Cornell should prove a much easier foe for the Red and Blue to conquer. The Big Red lost to both Penn and Princeton at this meet last year and finished last at the 2007-08 Ivy Championships.

Penn's efforts will be bolstered if sophomore Naomi Delphin, a gifted freestyle and butterfly swimmer who has been out with back problems, returns as expected. She is one of the many Quakers who have found themselves afflicted with injuries since the season began.

"This puts some of the other women in a position to step up," Schnur said.

Expect the Red and Blue to tinker with their lineup this weekend, given the different nature of this meet.

"I don't think anyone's doing the same thing as Sunday," sophomore freestyler Sarah Ernst said.
