On a day dominated by defense on both sides, Penn capitalized on five turnovers by Columbia to take an early lead and ride out a 15-10 win at Franklin Field.
Defensive back Britton Ertman intercepted Columbia's Shane Kelly twice, and a Kelly fumble gave Penn the ball at the 2-yard line, setting up its only touchdown.
The Quakers gained just 204 yards on offense -- including a 20-yard output in the second quarter -- and gave 94 back on penalties. Andrew Samson kicked two field goals for Penn, and an errant snap by the Lions gave the Quakers a safety and a 15-10 lead in the third quarter.
The victory was Penn's 11th in a row against Columbia and the Lions' 13th straight loss.
