The Penn women's soccer team improved to 1-1 in the Big 5 with a 4-2 victory over Saint Joseph's.
In a physical match played on a muddy Rhodes Field, the Quakers managed an incredible 15 shots on goal, compared to only two for the Hawks.
But thanks to St. Joe's Cara Critchlow's eight first half saves, Penn found itself tied at two early in the second half before senior Molly Weir and freshman Ursula Lopez-Palm broke through behind the defense for a pair of goals.
Sophomore Sarah Friedman opened the scoring with a free kick from 30 yards out and tacked on two assists to increase her team-leading points total to 15. Senior Natalie Capuano scored her team-leading fourth goal with 14 seconds left in the first half after corralling a Friedman corner kick.
The Quakers will return to their Ivy slate this weekend with a Saturday matchup at Cornell.
