They've come from all over the country: New York, New York, California, New York, Maryland, New York, New York, Colorado and . New York.

Although they've just arrived on campus, the men's lacrosse team's newest members should fit right in at Franklin Field - four of the nine played with either their fellow recruits or current Penn players in high school.

The freshmen are: Anthony Adler, Jacob Bock, John Conneely, Alek Ferro, Joe Hegener, Will Koshansky, Matt Machucki, Dan Savage and Tim Schwalje.

Any help they can provide would be much appreciated by a lacrosse team that has finished 6-7 (3-3 Ivy) each of the last two years. Last season, Voelker's squad finished last of the Ivy League in goals scored and second-to-last in goals against average.

Conneely, a Dix Hills, N.Y., native, is a 2008 USLacrosse All-America pick and should add some needed depth to an attack led by seniors Craig Andrzejewski and Alex Weber. The duo combined for 44 goals, but got little help.

Bock, Machucki and Schwalje will also provide bench support on the front line. Schwalje will have at least a couple friends in the locker room, as he played in high school at St. Anthony's with Koshansky and Kevin Nolan, a sophomore defender.

Given that Penn had as much trouble scoring goals as preventing them last year, Voelker went out and got himself a goalie - Joe Hegener. Hegener hails from San Diego, and, like Conneely, was a 2008 USLacrosse All-America pick.

Meanwhile, Alek Ferro (a high school teammate of Quakers junior Joe Kelly), Dan Savage (a high school teammate of current Quakers Justin Lynch and Terry Kennedy) and Anthony Adler join a strong midfield led by seniors Garvey Heiderman and J.J. Lian, junior Justin Lynch and sophomore Al Kohart. Kohart was particularly impressive, scoring 19 goals as a freshman. If even one of the three frosh pan out as well as Kohart, it will bode well for Penn's record.

Koshansky is the lone defender of the class and he joins a back line comprising mostly juniors.

"We addressed some needs on the defensive end, and really helped our depth on offense," Voelker said in a statement. "In addition, these guys . have played in big games."
