The University of Alabama at Birmingham's loss could turn out to be Penn's gain.
Tamir Jackson, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, N.J., recently de-committed to UAB's Class of 2013, according to Zagsblog.net. He names Penn as one of his options.
Penn was originally one of Jackson's choices before he committed to UAB. Now it appears that the Quakers are again on his radar.
Jackson, a top-100 recruit, currently attends the alma mater of incoming freshman point guard Zack Rosen. His shining moment came in a Dec. 12 contest against No. 1 Oak Hill Academy, televised nationally on ESPN. Jackson scored 29 in the St. Benedict's victory.
Also playing on Jackson's side in that game was Rutgers-bound Greg Echenique - a top-10 recruit in the high school Class of 2008 - who received an offer from Penn.
According to the blog, Director of the Playaz Basketball Club Jimmy Salmon referred to Jackson as the most under-rated guard in his class.
Other schools under consideration for Jackson include Harvard, Miami, Virginia Tech, Rice, Davidson and Arizona, while UAB remains in play. Jackson says he has no favorite.
