M. Tennis struggles in home tournament With the top four Penn men's tennis players resting after playing in last weekend's ITA Regionals, other members of the Quakers were given the opportunity to showcase their talents at home in the Penn Classic this weekend. The home crowd did not have much to cheer for, however, as every Quakers' player was eliminated by Saturday afternoon, the second day of the three-day tournament. Only junior Aubry Wand was able to win more than one match in the singles tournament. He defeated two Maryland players in the Flight B draw before losing to a third, Louis-Xavier Lavallee, 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. In the Flight A draw, junior Tas Tobias, senior Jimmy Fairbanks and freshman Justin Fox each won their opening match but fell in the Round of 16. Two other Quakers' players, senior Joe Mirable and sophomore Brandon O'Gara did not make it out of the opening round. In the Flight B draw, junior Jeremy Steglitz and No. 4 seed sophomore Andy Magnes, the only seeded Penn player, lost in the round of 16. Penn fared a little better in doubles as two pairs reached the quarterfinals. O'Gara and Fox, the No. 3 seed, lost to No. 5 Nickolai Nielsen and Andreas Vaage-Nilsen of Maryland 8-2. No. 6 Tobias and Fairbanks fell to St. John's No. 4 Louis Desmarteaux and Alex Svetlakov, 8-3. The tournament was the Quakers' final one of the fall season. - Michael Gulinello Princeton wins first sprint game since '99 It had been 40 games and almost seven years, and the Tigers sprint football team lost every one.
