Penn men's basketball senior guard Tim Begley was named an honorable-mention All-American yesterday and was also named to the Winter Academic All-Ivy team.
As the Ivy League Player of the Year, the Quakers' captain was automatically included in the honorable-mention unit of the All-America team.
Joining him there from the Big 5 are Atlantic 10 Co-players of the Year Pat Carroll of Saint Joseph's and Stephen Smith of La Salle.
The Academic All-Ivy team is made up of starters or key reserves on winter varsity teams who have grade point averages of at least 3.0.
Each school nominates five men and five women to the team.
The other Penn players to make the squad were fencers Holly Buechel, Katelyn Sherry and Michael Galligan, wrestling's Matt Feast, women's basketball center Jennifer Fleischer, runner Courtney Jaworski, squash's Gilly Lane and Paula Pearson and gymnast Emily Petkun.
Begley's selection was his second, and Feast's was his third.
The only other men's basketball players to make the list are Cornell's Lenny Collins and Graham Dow, Dartmouth's Michael Liddy and Yale's Alex Gamboa. -- Josh Hirsch
