The young Penn women's track team continued to show promise on Saturday despite just falling to Princeton, 72.5-54.5.
The loss was obviously not the goal for the Quakers, but they had no shortage of positives to take away from the meet.
Seniorpole vaulter Samantha Crook won her event by matching the school record she set last weekend at 3.81 meters. Crook has had a sensational indoor season and will be someone to watch when the Quakers begin outdoor meets in March.
Lauren Davis also put points on the board for the Quakers with a third-place finish in the pole vault. She hit 3.35 meters.
The young Quakers stars continued to shine with respectable performances in the 400-meter, 800m, and 4x400m relay.
Freshman Jesse Carlin, a Staten Island, N.Y. native, continued to add to her already impressive resume at Penn with a victory in the 400m. Carlin edged the Tigers' Chanel Lattimer with a time of 56.99, the second fastest in Red and Blue history.
Carlin, along with teammates Krysta Copeland, Izu Emeagwali and Shaunee Morgan, continued their success in the 4x400m relay. The Quakers placed first with a time of 3:54.52. Still, the run was more than five seconds slower than last weekend's time at the Terrier Classic in Boston.
Sophomore Christine Morrison won the 800m run, cruising across the finish line in 2:13.68.
Penn's throwing team swept the top-three places in the shot put with Charity Payne earning first with a throw of 13.22m, third longest in Quakers history. Shani Boston and Stephanie Guy placed second and third, respectively.
Freshman Charli Tabler won the weight throw with a toss of 14.75m.
Emeagwali placed second in the 60m and 200m dashes. The senior sprinter recorded a time of 7.88 seconds in the 60m, the second-fastest time in team history.
Despite the heartbreaker, the Quakers still have a lot of time before they face Princeton outdoors. The women have been training hard in the offseason and surely will continue to perfect their workouts in anticipation of the spring season.
But in the more immediate future, the Quakers will head to New York next weekend to take on Lafayette and Rider.
