Brown football tri-captain Lawrence Rubida, lost his battle with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of a childhood bone cancer, on Saturday morning.
The senior was 23 years old.
Rubida was diagnosed with the disease after doctors found a tumor on his hip in the spring of 2004.
The native of Arlington, Va., did not play this past season while he was receiving treatment at Stanford University's Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, but did make a cross-country trip to appear at the Brown-Harvard game on Sept. 25. He was honored to raise awareness for his struggle.
Bears' head coach Phil Estes and assistant Frank Sheehan were with Rubida when he died, as were his parents, sister and girlfriend.
