It was just what the Penn baseball team needed to jumpstart its slumping season.
After losing six consecutive games and its last seven Ivy League matchups, Penn junior Nate Moffie hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to send game one of Saturday's doubleheader with Cornell into extra innings.
The Quakers then went on to win the game, 3-2, in the bottom of the 10th after a wild pitch by Cornell's Matthew Light allowed Penn sophomore Ken-Ichi Hino to score.
Penn junior pitcher Remington Chin recorded the win after pitching a one-hit, shutout 10th inning.
But Penn quickly returned back to form in its other three games against the Big Red.
In Saturday's second game, the Quakers recorded three errors, each resulting in an unearned run.
Cornell rallied for three runs in both the second and sixth innings, defeating the Quakers, 9-2.
Big Red pitcher Luke Staskal stymied Penn's batters on the day, recording a complete game four-hitter. He struck out five Penn batters to record his first win of the year.
Between Saturday's two matchups, five new members -- Glen Ambrosius, Michael A. Green, Carl Giuranna, Andy Laurits and Jack Walters -- were inducted into the school's baseball Hall of Fame.
Yesterday's doubleheader against Cornell resulted in two Quakers losses, as Penn failed to win a game on Senior Day.
The Quakers put three runs on the board in the first inning, thanks to a two-RBI double by junior Bryan Graves and an RBI single by senior John Slaughter.
Graves recorded another RBI in the fifth inning to put Penn up, 4-1.
But Cornell exploded for four runs in the sixth inning on just two hits.
Penn junior pitcher Josh Appell walked four batters and threw a wild pitch in the inning before being pulled for junior Dan Finkelstein. Finkelstein got Penn out of the inning, but not before giving up two hits and a wild pitch.
In the team's final home game of the season, Penn was able to put men on base -- recording 10 hits -- but was unable to score, falling 5-1.
The Quakers left eight runners on base in the game.
Penn's lone run came in the seventh inning. Junior Matt Horn tripled to lead off the inning and was brought home by junior Evan Sobel, who grounded out to second base.
The Red and Blue return to action tomorrow, when they travel to Hawk Hill to take on Saint Joseph's. The Quakers lost to the Hawks, 4-2, when they faced them on March 31 at Murphy Field.
