Former Zeta Beta Tau brothers all sign U. residency contract

Strict living conditions will be enforced for the residents to remain

While many students are completing on-campus housing applications for next year, the former brothers of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity have signed a different contract -- one that allows them to remain in their current residence for the remainder of the semester.

"All 23 former brothers of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity have signed the addendum with the stipulations for living at 235 S. 39th Street," Vice Provost for University Life spokeswoman Leah Smith said.

These stipulations include 24-hour, University-approved supervision and limitations on non-academic visitors.

The residents of the house are relieved at having reached an understanding with the University.

"I definitely think that the occupancy agreement is a step in the right direction," house resident and Wharton sophomore Adam Wyden said. "Our goal here is to learn, and the University's goal is to protect us."

The Greek community similarly welcomed this development.

"It's certainly good news to hear that all the residents of the former ZBT house have signed their occupancy agreements," InterFraternity Council President Conor O'Callaghan said. "I think it's best for both those students and the University that they be allowed to remain in the house for the remainder of the semester."

The occupants of the house expressed similar sentiments.

"This has been the end of a very stressful period," said Wyden, who is looking forward to continuing his academic career at Penn. "This is still my home, but it's no longer a collective home."
