Gymnastics heading south for GW Invite
Six days after defeating Wilson in its season opener, the Penn gymnastics team heads to the nation's capital to compete in the George Washington Invitational on Sunday.
Against Wilson, sophomore Emily Petkun and junior Lex Chalat had the meets of their careers, posting personal bests in the first meet of the season.
But the Quakers can expect high performances from others, too. Leah Moon, Meaghan Sanders, Christy Green and Tricia Chan each helped the Quakers get the 15-point victory over Wilson.
If the Quakers are to compete with George Washington, similar performances may be needed.
The Colonials boast one of the deepest teams in the school's history, with all but one gymnast returning from last year's squad. George Washington senior co-captain Rachel Mann qualified for the NCAA Southeast Regional last year and holds the team record in the floor excercise at 9.950.
Last season the Quakers placed fifth overall at the George Washington Invitational, led by then-freshman Laura Bouchelle on the vault.
At the meet last year, George Washington took first, followed by North Carolina, William & Mary and Cornell.
The Quakers kick off their Ivy League season next week against Yale before taking on Wilson in a rematch on Feb. 1.
