"Chicken tastes good, and porn is people having sex with each other."
This is the motto behind Porn 'n Chicken, a new movie based on the true story of a Yale University underground societyof the same name that will be aired Oct. 13 on Comedy Central.
And around 200 Penn students got a sneak peek of the action at a viewing of the movie in Houston Hall last night sponsored by the Social Planning and Events Committee.
The film focused on the original underground club dedicated to watching porn films and eating fried chicken, although the school is referred to as simply an Ivy League institution.
But it was the risque title that attracted most of the audience, which was diverse and made of people of both sexes.
"The name of the movie says it all," Wharton doctoral student Karan Girota said.
Many said they were enticed by the promise of free food as much as the idea of a movie about a college porn club.
"Have you ever eaten at the dining hall? Why would I turn down free food?" College freshman Alex Brodsky said.
"It sounded like a smashing good time," added College freshman Celeste McDonald.
Before the film had even started, massive trays of fried chicken and buffalo wings and jugs of Kool Aid were nearly empty. Students, their hunger satisfied, sat in their seats in anticipation.
The movie turned out to be tamer than most students expected. In fact, the movie included no porn or nudity at all, as it was made for basic cable. The closest thing to risque was a shot of the bare backsides of two of the club members who stripped down from chicken suits on the green of the university.
There was a clear plot line encompassing all aspects of stereotypical college life: friendship, romance, competition and, of course, alcohol, drugs and sex.
Although nothing was explicitly shown, the story was far from clean. The porn movie that the students created to be shot in the university library included sex with vegetables and a mass orgy involving the school's dean.
"It was disgusting and tasteless, just how I like it," Brodsky said.
SPEC officers said they were excited about bringing a movie to campus that Penn students could relate to.
"It's something all college students can relate to," said SPEC member Amy Liao, a College junior.
Comedy Central contacted Ivy League universities to inform them about the film and provided SPEC with Porn 'n Chicken t-shirts and posters which were raffled off to students.
"The movie was really funny," said College junior Kirsten Grubbs, another member of SPEC who helped organize the event. "I didn't realize it would actually have a plot."
Some students were so inspired by the film that they reflected upon the possibility of starting a club similar to Porn n' Chicken here at Penn.
"I think you only need three or four people to start a new club here," said Abby Zimmerman, an Engineering freshman. "I'm going to find three of my friends and start one of those, but I don't really like fried chicken. I think I'll call it Pizza and Porn."
