Commencement Weekend 1999:

Engineering deans spoke Sunday at SEAS graduation ceremony at the Palestra. "For Engineering students it really is a great accomplishment," Vohs told the graduating seniors and audience members at Monday's SEAS graduation. Vohs stressed that the graduates should take pride in that accomplishment, because Engineering students often take a heavy course load and work on involved projects outside of class that occupy their weekends and free time. The ceremony -- held in the Palestra -- celebrated the accomplishments of the 275 graduating members of the SEAS Class of 1999. Vohs boasted to the crowd that he could always pick out the Engineering students on Locust Walk during graduation because they "stood a little taller, smiled a little wider and held their heads a little higher." Interim Enginnering Dean and Chemical Engineering Professor Eduardo Glandt -- who began serving his position this academic year after former dean Gregory Farrington left the University -- also addressed the graduates, congratulating them and offering words of advice. Glandt advised the graduates to work hard and "never fall behind because information and technology are moving so fast." -- Karlene Hanko
