IFC to elect new board tonight

Fraternity members will elect a new Interfraternity Council Board tonight, marking the end of Alpha Chi Rho brother Morris Massel's tenure as president. IFC members will also cast votes for four other board positions and select an IFC member-at-large. College junior Hayden Horowitz and Engineering junior Raj Amin have announced their intention to run for the IFC presidency. Horowitz, a Phi Sigma Kappa brother, is currently president of that fraternity as well as a judicial representative on the Greek Peer Judicial Board. Amin is presently the IFC representative from his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi. Both candidates will be allowed to speak for five minutes and the floor will then be opened for an "unlimited" amount of questioning, Massel said. "Considering the importance of the position?all IFC members can ask anything they want," he said. Following the question-and-answer session, the candidates will leave the room and the IFC members will argue the merits of each candidate before voting. Each IFC fraternity has two votes, Massel said, adding that it is up to each fraternity to decide whether one person will cast both votes or if two members from the fraternity will vote. Candidates for the other positions will only face three questions from the group of IFC members in the audience, Massel said. College junior Scott Litman, a Daily Pennsylvanian sports writer, and Wharton junior James Newsom are running for executive vice president. Litman, an Alpha Epsilon Pi brother, is currently IFC secretary. Newsom is a Sigma Alpha Epsilon brother and the IFC member-at-large. Matt Gilroy, a Wharton sophomore is running for vice president for rush. The Alpha Chi Rho brother is the only declared candidate for this position. Another Alpha Chi Rho brother, T.J. Zane, is the only declared candidate for secretary. Delta Tau Delta brother Jeff Love will be running against Anthony Scioli of Delta Kappa Epsilon for the position of treasurer. Wharton sophomore Shiraz Allidina, a Sigma Nu brother, will face Ben Presty of Phi Delta Theta for the judicial manager position. And three members are running for the one member-at-large spot. Ed Vincent of SAE, Tim Poulton of Beta and Calvin Lee of Lambda Phi Epsilon are declared candidates. The election will take place tonight at Stiteler Hall after the IFC's regular meeting. Massel said anyone interested in running for an IFC board position can still announce their candidacy at the beginning of tonight's meeting.
