Mid-Monday mix: Talkin' bout the weather

Happy Halloween, Buzz readers!

Check out the DP Sports section today and you'll notice a common theme. Everyone had to deal with some crazy weather this weekend. Some teams even had to stay over in New England an extra night. Yowza.

Rundown

The last time Penn football failed to score a single point in a game was 14 years ago. That streak, as well as the Quakers 18-game undefeated Ivy run, came to an end Saturday when Brown prevailed in a sloppy 6-0 win. In the words of Brown coach Phil Estes, "“It was a wet, muddy, miserable day, and we enjoyed every minute of it.”
Columnist Alyssa Kress says that while the streak may be over, a weight has been lifted off the Penn football team, which can still clinch at least a share of the title by winning out.
Volleyball split the weekend with Harvard and Dartmouth, finally winning 5-set match against the Big Green, a task that had haunted Penn until Saturday. The Quakers had to spend an extra night on the road due to the storm.
Women's soccer didn't give up a goal in the month of October. But the Quakers didn't get a goal at Brown either, tying 0-0. It was a game that shouldn't have been played, says coach Darren Ambrose, because of the weather. Harvard's win gives the crimson the automatic NCAA bid, though Penn can tie for the league title with a little help.
Men's soccer battled the same conditions and fell in another one goal loss, as Brown converted a penalty kick to win 1-0. The men will have to settle for a losing season this year.
Field Hockey took sole possession of sixth place with a win over Brown this weekend, coming from behind for a 3-2 victory.
Cross Country ran in the annual Heptagonal championships this weekend, dashing through the snow to last place for both the men and the women.
The Penn-Army sprint football game this weekend had over 100 points of offense, but Army's was a little quicker in the 58-44 slugfest.

Weekend win: goes to every Penn athlete who played outdoors this weekend. I can't imagine how that felt.
