Eyes on Texas, Part II

It's a good day to be a Longhorn today at Franklin Field. The burnt orange edged out Arkansas and Michigan, two teams that have had a stranglehold recently on the men's DMR. It was Texas first win in the event, although the time of 9:33.10 wasn't astonishing.

Not suprising, there were really only two teams that led most of the way, Michigan (champions in 2005 and 2003) and Arkansas (winners in 2004 and 2002) plus Villanova (champs in 2001) were out front early. Then Texas anchor Leo Manzano jumped in front with a burst of speed in the final 250 meters. It looked a lot like the Villanova women's victory yesterday in the same race.

The Texas four also got quite the ovation as they carried the Lone Star flag on their victory lap.

Head count Today's announced attendace was 39,943, the largest Friday crowd in the history of the Relays. Combined with yesterday's total, 64,423 fans have been a part of this year's carnival.
