Dunphy rumors should stay in Philly

With yesterday's retirement of long-time Temple coach John Chaney, Penn coach Fran Dunphy's name has been mentioned in several sources as a possible successor.

There was even a story in the Albany Times-Union about the possible departure of Penn alum and current Siena coach Fran McAffery to Penn if Dunphy leaves for Temple.

After the scene two summers ago where Dunphy was heavily rumored to take over at his alma mater La Salle, and eventually declined, I personally doubt that Dunphy will leave Penn for Temple. However, anything's possible.

But most importantly, I hope that everyone can realize that Dunphy is going to Dallas this weekend to play a game against a top-10 team, and not turn Thursday's pre-game press conference and Friday's post-game talk into the rumor mill.

Let him prepare for Texas and then digest what happened before the bombardment of questions begins.

This week should be about Penn's season and their chances against Texas, not about Dunphy. And besides, we all know how much Dunphy loves talking about himself, so there probably wouldn't be too much information there either.
