Sailing club wins Mid-Atlantic Club Championship
Penn Club Sailing had a big win this weekend in City Island, N.Y., beating out 17 other teams to win the MAISA club championships and securing a spot in the Atlantic Coast Championships at MIT.
Penn led after four races on Saturday before the wind died out and the tournament was suspended. On Sunday, the Red and Blue picked up right where they left off, closing out a four-point win over Virginia.
Penn freshman Jack Swikart led the Quakers to a first-place finish in the B division and junior Mike Russom placed second in the A division. They sailed nine races in each division over the weekend event, which included teams from Cornell, Columbia and Princeton.
Though Penn's is a club team, it will face some of the top Varsity teams in the nation next weekend in Boston.
