M. Hoops season preview material rolling in
Is Penn men's basketball flying "under the radar?"
That's what senior captain Zack Rosen says. In a video interview with Philly.com, Rosen said he thinks the team will exceed expectations this year.
"I think we have some guys this year that are going to surprise people," he said in the video, which you can watch below. "We’ve got some guys that are under the radar, have done some pretty good work in the summer, and have come back showing positive signs for this year and their development."
The Daily News also released its season preview for Penn, with this nice little soundbite from coach Jerome Allen:
"It's always about process," Allen said. "It took the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan a couple of years before they got over the hump."
And here is the DN's projected starting five. As we've discussed before, Penn will likely go small, with Fran Dougherty being the only true big man on the floor in this line-up:
F Tyler Bernardini Sr., 12.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg F Fran Dougherty So., 2.5 ppg, 2.4 rpg G Zack Rosen Sr., 14.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg G Miles Cartwright So., 11.7 ppg, 2.0 rpg G Rob Belcore Sr., 3.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg
The real question is whether this lineup can rebound. The only player in this starting five whose minutes will increase significantly is Dougherty. If he can rebound at Jack Eggleston-esque levels (8 per game last season) in the increased minutes, that will be a start, but Penn will need more out of Bernardini and Belcore.
