Game 7: Princeton - The Good, Bad and the Ugly

After the opening quarter, it looked like it would be a long day at the Frank, but Penn quickly found its groove and cruised to a 37-9 victory at homecoming.

The Good: Red zone defense. The 'D' always talks about their bend-don't-break mentality and it was in prime display against Princeton. Two early blocked punts gave the Tigers great field position, but the defense denied them from getting anything more than a field goal. And that would be the case all day, as Penn only allowed nine points, all from Princeton's kicker. Any time the defense doesn't allow a touchdown, Penn's in good shape — barring a freak October snow storm.

The Bad: Princeton's tough run defense put a cap on the Penn rush, which was held to a season low 76 rushing yards — in fact, the Quakers have rushed for 100+ yards every weekend since Nov. 19, 2009. Penn's Brandon Colavita 21 net yards, averaging 2.1 per carry, well below his career average of 5.1. It just goes to show that a good rush defense can stop the bread and butter of Penn's offense.

The Ugly: Blocked punts happen. But one should be enough of a wake-up call to shore-up protection for the rest of the game. So when Scott Lopano had a second punt blocked to in the first quarter, it was downright ugly.
