Friday Night Lights... or not

Harvard was already having trouble getting the second Friday night football game in Ivy League history off the ground. But as detailed in today's Boston Globe, a conflict with Yom Kippur has prompted the Crimson to ask Brown for a delay of game. 24 hours, to be exact, to Saturday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

Penn plays at Villanova Stadium that Saturday too, at 6 p.m. It's my understanding that the holiday ends at sunset that day. Would anyone who knows please post a comment and inform this Gentile if the 6 p.m. start time could be a problem for Jewish fans?

Update, Saturday, 7:30 p.m.: Brown has apparently given its blessing to the schedule change, meaning the only Friday night game this year will be Cornell at Princeton in Week 7.

Harvard apparently thinks that 7:30 is late enough to at least be an improvement. (Penn Hillel lists the Yom Kippur fast as ending at 7:40.)

Penn must have been aware of the conflict with the Villanova game, which makes me think that CN8's broadcast probably had something to do with the 6 p.m. kickoff time. The last three Penn-'Nova games all had 7 p.m. starts.
