More on The America Channel

There wasn't quite enough space in today's paper for everything I wanted to say about The America Channel, so here are some more details.

First, the channel will also be in 50 million homes in Europe and the Middle East via telecom giant BT. Second, CEO Doron Gorshein told me, there will be more deals being announced in the next few weeks with more NCAA conferences. Clearly, Gorshein is not holding back on trying to make his network a success, something that could either be really good or blow up in his face if he overreaches his channel's capabilities.

From the Ivy League side, Executive Director Jeff Orleans confirmed what I had suspected -- that there is no money being exchanged on either side of the deal. The Ivies only get exposure, which is significant.

As for the games being streamed by the schools, Orleans told me that initially the video streams will be part of the schools' respective online packages, and not a separate free service. However, he hopes to also get the games on the Ivy League Sports Web site, which would be free.
