In the zone

If you thought Penn's constantly-switching man defense was hard to follow, Cornell's is not for you.

Against the Quakers, Steve Donahue employed an array of sets, often switching from zone to man and back. This certainly isn't rare for basketball on the college level, but Cornell took it up another notch.

"I was really anticipating that they would play a lot of zone against us," Penn coach Glen Miller said after the game. "They've showed a little 2-2-1 three-quarter court. They didn't play that against us, it was mainly 1-3-1, and they were switching their zone defense into a man-to-man part of the way into the possession."

Cornell also had multiple versions of the zone in the half-court set, often playing in a 2-3 (two guards, three forwards) but switched it up for a few possessions into a 3-2.

After this, John Chaney's matchup zone is a piece of cake.
