Aron Cohen's technical and Joe Gill\'s jaw

BOSTON -- Several people have asked me how Aron Cohen managed to get a technical foul in Boston last night. I'm not exactly sure myself, but here's what I saw:

With less than two minutes to go in the game, there was a loose ball at Penn's end of the court. Joe Gill, who had just come in, went for it with Harvard's Ndubuisi Okereke. Gill lowered his head to go after the ball just as Okereke extended his elbow, and the Penn man took the hit squarely in the front teeth. (I'll be nice and speculate that it wasn't intentional, but one wonders what Okereke's elbow was doing up there...)

As Gill walked away making sure his teeth were all there, Cohen came up and exchanged words with Okereke (who has played a total of five minutes this year for the Crimson). The situation diffused quickly but the head referee assessed technicals to both of them.

And Gill appeared to be OK, although he missed both of his free throws.
