Temple vs. Penn is not Us vs. Them

I apologize to the Quakers diehards who I might offend, but I have to agree with Josh's post about fans rushing the court against Temple. But my reasoning is different.

Rushing the court is something you do against a team that is nothing but an enemy. Like a far better squad, a rival, or a postseason opponent.

Temple may be an enemy of Penn's, but the presence of Fran Dunphy on the opposing bench means that the relationship is not one-dimensional any longer. The Dunph is as steadfast a friend of Penn basketball as anyone, and the Penn-Temple game will no longer be "us vs. them." It can't.

Fran Dunphy made this program what it is, and when the student body rushed the court, its celebration -- justified or not -- came at Dunphy's expense. What a way to treat a friend.
