Be glad you don't go to Harvard

A lot of energy has been spent on these pages over the debate surrounding Wednesday night's court-rushing after the Temple win. In light of last night's events out in Allston, here's something we can all agree on: making fun of Harvard.

The Crimson dropped an 88-78 decision at Lavietes Pavilion to Yale despite the absence of the Elis' captain, Sam Kaplan. That sparked this humorously depressing sidebar from a "contributing writer" at the Harvard Crimson.

With sub-zero winds in the forecast and the Harvard student body in post-exam hibernation, the crowd on Friday night was as dull and lifeless as ever, drawing out any remaining life-blood from a supposed rivalry game that pitted a 5-10 Yale squad against an 8-8 Harvard team. Yale fans in attendance seemed to equal, if not exceed, Crimson supporters, and with no Harvard cheerleaders in sight, Yale's cheerleading squad took the floor at every opportunity.

Ouch. Brian Cusworth hammers the point home by blaming his team's poor second half on the sparse crowd:

"I can't make that excuse, because we've played enough years here that we should be used to [the bad atmosphere]," Cusworth said. "But when you take a punch like they gave us at the end of the first half, it can carry over when you don't have a home crowd behind you."

Straight from Norries Wilson's playbook: Say that you're not going to say something, then say it. ("I'm not allowed to comment on the officiating, so I won't say that we got held and they wouldn't call it until the game was pretty much over.")

When we get out-cheered by St. Joe's today, a virtual guarantee unless the R5 and all the roads are shut down, remember that there's at least one school that's having a worse weekend fan support-wise.
