Who needs sleep?

Congratulations to 1996 Penn alumnus Dan Leibovitz, the former Temple assistant who was officially named the new head men's basketball coach at Hartford yesterday.

While the implications of the hire were covered in today's DP, I can't help but note here something Leibovitz said at his press conference today, when asked the inevitable question about his former boss John Chaney's legendary practice schedules.

"No we're not going to practice at 5:30 a.m.," he said. "We're going to be disciplined, but I've had enough of that. I've got to get some sleep."

There's a good reason for that -- he and his wife, Nancy, are expecting their first child in June. So a double congratulations then. Here's hoping that if the child grows up with Dan's knowledge of the game, we might see him or her following in Dan's footsteps at Penn some day.

Then again, who knows if a college coaching salary will be enough to cover Penn's tuition 18 years from now.
