The Quakers lost three close showdowns to highly-ranked teams at the Stanford Invitational in California this past weekend, yet the athletes developed chemistry that made the cross country campaign a success.
Penn volleyball visited California this weekend for the Stanford Tournament, falling to three high-quality opponents: Santa Clara, No. 1 Stanford and No. 20 Duke. However, the Red and Blue took away a wealth of experience with eight players from the Golden State returning home for the weekend.
Penn volleyball entered this weekend surrounded by a lot of questions. The team didn’t only answer these questions – they changed the entire course of the conversation.
In its opening match of the year, Penn took care of business in its season opener and first leg of the weekend’s Crowne Plaza Invitational, defeating Colgate in straight sets.
A slow start, a fierce comeback and a tough loss.
In many ways, the third set of Saturday’s match against Yale was a microcosm of the season for Penn’s volleyball team.
The Ivy League title may be out of reach for Penn volleyball, but there is still the chance to end the season on a long winning streak and with a victory against every team in the Ivy League.
Down 14-12 in a fifth set and facing two match point opportunities for Harvard, Penn women’s volleyball showed the resilience that has made it so dominant over the past few weeks.
In its second match of the season against Dartmouth, Penn volleyball extended its five-game winning streak with a 3-1 victory on the road at Leede Arena, 19-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-13.
The Quakers ended their five-game home stand with four consecutive wins, including a five-set win over Cornell on Friday and a three-set win against Columbia on Saturday.
Nearly a month after defeating Cornell in five sets in Ithaca, the Quakers found themselves in a similar back and forth affair. Once again, Penn prevailed taking a five-set victory over the Big Red.
Currently sitting in a two-way tie for third with Brown, the Quakers want to use tactics that worked last weekend to knock off fifth-place Cornell and Columbia this weekend at the Palestra.
With the most fans in attendance all season, Penn volleyball faced off against Harvard, losing in four sets. The Red and Blue rebounded against Dartmouth on Saturday as they beat the Big Green, 3-1.
