The alleged perpetrator, described by the Division of Public Safety as a lightly-complected black man with curly hair in dark pants and a purple shirt, used a "simulated weapon" to rob someone unaffiliated with Penn.
A safety alert said DPS "has created a Task Force with Penn Police, Philadelphia Police and Allied Universal to identify and apprehend this individual" responsible for the burglaries.
"If a resident reports their laundry stolen, we encourage them to file a police report. The reality in most cases is that another student is responsible for the missing laundry, whether maliciously or accidentally,” Director of Residential Services John Eckman said in an emailed statement.
The Division of Public Safety anticipates a further rise in thefts during the spring season, where warmer weather is thought to encourage this type of criminal behavior.
“We spoke to nationals about it and nationals was super supportive because, of course, this is the Alpha chapter,” Wharton sophomore and Skulls President Garrison Xian said. “Nationals is backing us completely.”
