If you’re chronically online at Penn, you’ve likely come across reports of our University’s many appearances in court. Much of the campus conversation on Penn’s legal involvements has been clouded by individuals prioritizing their own experiences at the expense of understanding, or even just acknowledging, those of others. Perhaps this phenomenon owes to recent upsets in discourse; The establishment, privilege, and whiteness have become so integral to conversation that we’re hypersensitive to any fellow classmate or faculty member’s possible complicity in some global conflict.

In 1979, Jimmy Carter was President of the United States, Superman was the highest-grossing movie in America, and, for about three weeks in March, Penn men’s basketball was atop the world. After going 13-1 in Ivy League play and clinching the second of five straight conference titles under then-head coach Bob Weinhauer, the Quakers secured a spot in the March Madness tournament. But that was only where the magic began.

In a season full of upsets and harsh battles, No. 17 Penn seems to have found its footing as King Killers. Facing off against No. 7 ranked Cornell, the Quakers fought out their hardest win of the year yet in a double overtime match that ended 11-10. The resounding victory marks just another step in Penn’s quest for their sixth Ivy Title.
