Penn men’s basketball falls to Columbia in back and forth affair

(01/28/24 2:09am)

After winning their first conference game of the season against Dartmouth, the Quakers have gone downhill, enduring their third consecutive conference loss. Penn (9-10, 1-3 Ivy) suffered its latest defeat at the hands of Columbia (10-7, 1-3 Ivy). The 84-81 loss finished with the Red and Blue unable to string together critical possessions late in the game.

Srivastava | Penn men's basketball's win over Villanova proves team's Ivy title contention is real

(11/15/23 2:05am)

On Monday night, Penn men's basketball (3-1) pulled off an incredible upset in its 76-72 victory over No. 21 Villanova (2-1). The Quakers hadn’t beaten the Wildcats since 2018, even during the team's era with star guard Jordan Dingle — who gained Ivy League and Big 5 recognition for three seasons donning Red and Blue before transferring to St. John's last offseason. But it didn’t seem like the Quakers needed Dingle’s scoring to win this game. This team feels different. The Quakers don’t just look to one or two players for elite scoring anymore; everyone is involved.

Turning the page: Penn men’s basketball coach Steve Donahue talks upcoming 2023-24 season

(10/31/23 2:13pm)

Last year, Penn men's basketball finished third in the Ivy League during the regular season before losing to eventual Champions Princeton in the semifinals of the Ivy League Tournament. Then, the Quakers went through an offseason that saw the transfer of last year's Ivy League Player of the Year, Jordan Dingle, the medical retirement of guard/forward Max Martz, and the graduation of key pieces such as Lucas Monroe and Jonah Charles. Now, on the cusp of a new season, coach Steve Donahue sat down with The Daily Pennsylvanian to discuss the offseason and expectations for the upcoming campaign.

For Penn football's Bryce Myers, playing tight end is a way of life

(10/31/23 1:41am)

Last weekend, Penn football improved to 5-1 in 2023 following a ten-point win at Yale. Late in the fourth quarter of that game, the Quakers were leading 20-17, when junior quarterback Aidan Sayin threw a 15 yard strike to tight end Bryce Myers for a touchdown that essentially clinched the game. Despite traffic around the middle of the field, Myers came down with the touchdown catch — the first of his collegiate career — while taking hits from two defenders. He would finish the game with three catches for 33 yards and the touchdown.

Srivastava | Quakers’ inconsistencies apparent in loss to Dartmouth

(10/02/23 2:32am)

Penn football battled to the very end in a messy thriller against Dartmouth(2-1, 1-0 Ivy), but were eventually defeated after a 37-yard game-winning field goal in overtime. Even with the game being so close, the Quakers (2-1, 0-1) seemed far from the version of themselves we saw in the past two weeks. Inconsistent play riddled all phases of the game for the Red and Blue, which added up to a disappointing finish.

Women's Breakthrough Athlete of the Year: Erika Chung

(04/27/23 5:35am)

It would be hard to imagine the season that sophomore attacker Erika Chung had this year if you were making predictions based on her freshman year. In 2022, Chung played in just six games, of which she started none and only accumulated four points (one goal, three assists). Off this limited sample size, it would be tough to predict the revelation that Chung has been in 2023 for Penn women’s lacrosse.
