Furda says Penn will revisit admissions procedures in light of national bribery scandal

In light of the nationwide bribery scandal involving admissions procedures at elite institutions, Penn Dean of Admissions Eric Furda said the University will once again consider revising its processes related to recruitment and evaluation. Penn hired an outside consultant to review procedures after former men's basketball coach Jerome Allen pleaded guilty in October 2018 to accepting bribes to help a current Penn senior gain admission.


Penn not among schools named in nationwide college admissions scandal

The University of Pennsylvania was not among the higher education institutions named in court documents unsealed by the Justice Department on March 12 charging 50 people — mostly parents, including two celebrities — for taking part in a far-reaching bribery scam to get prospective students into elite schools. This news comes only days after former Penn coach Jerome Allen testified that he took part in a similar bribery scandal in order to help a current Penn senior gain admission to the University.








New College House West will begin construction next Monday on high-rise field

Construction will begin on Dec. 3 for New College House West, Penn's record-breaking $163 million dorm set to open on the corner of 40th and Walnut streets, according to emails sent to residents of nearby Rodin and W.E.B. Du Bois College Houses. The email also said students should expect noise from construction throughout reading days and finals week.
