The Quakers’ women’s swim team travelled to New Haven, Conn. this weekend, defeating Dartmouth 163-64, but falling to Yale, 179-121.
Freshman Shelby Fortin came up big for the Red and the Blue, winning both the 100-yard backstroke and the 50-yard freestyle.
The Quakers also got seven second-place finishes, including the 200-yard backstroke, both the 100 and 200-yard breastsroke, the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard butterfly, where sophomore Melissa Parratto came in only .04 seconds behind the leader.
Though they lost to Yale, the team’s victory over Dartmouth came as a pleasant surprise.
“The transitive property of swimming doesn’t always work, which is lucky for us,” coach Mike Schnur said. “Dartmouth beat Brown pretty easily, and Brown beat us, so we went in as an underdog.”
Next up, the Quakers go to Cambridge Jan. 23 to take on Harvard, their last Ivy opponent until the Championships.
