Last week, the Penn Athletic Department announced its third slate of inductees to the Penn Athletic Hall of Fame.
The 23 former Quakers players and coaches will be inducted on November 11, during Homecoming Weekend, at the Inn at Penn.
Eighty-eight years separate the oldest and youngest newly-minted Hall of Famers.
The oldest is Josiah C. McCracken, a two-sport athlete in football and track who graduated in 1901. McCracken was a member of the Quakers 1900 team, which posted a 12-1 record.
The youngest inductee is Quakers field hockey great Elizabeth "Nicky" Hitchens, C'89. Hitchens was a two-time All-American and led the Quakers to the 1988 NCAA semifinals as the first Ivy League team to accomplish that feat.
Another member of the Quakers great field hockey teams of the '80s who will now be enshrined in the Donaldson room at Weightman Hall is Lisa Romig Atkins, C'82 -- who also played lacrosse for the Quakers.
Also on the list is DeBenneville "Bert" Bell, C'20, captained the Quakers 1919 squad which posted a 6-2-1 record.
Another Quakers football great is Eliot W. Berry C '71, an All-Ivy kicker who led the team in scoring in 1968 and 1969. Berry was also a standout on the Quakers squash and tennis squads.
John "Jack" W. McCloskey, ED'48, is one of two coaches included in this third class. McCloskey played three sports while a Penn undergrad. He was a standout in baseball, basketball and football, where he shared the gridiron with the great Chuck Bednarik.
McCloskey coached the Penn baseball team from 1955-65 and the basketball team from 1956-1966. He led the baseball team to a 95-119-2 record in his 10 years at the helm.
McCloskey had a little more luck on the hardwood, guiding the Quakers to a 146-105 record and a Big 5 title. McCloskey later had a short stint in the NBA as head coach of the Portland Trailblazers from 1972-1974.
One of the baseball greats to make the team was Andrew Muhlstock, a Quakers pitching standout in the mid-'70s. Muhlstock was a first-team All-Ivy selection in 1974. Muhlstock also twice led the league in won-lost record, posting a 6-1 mark in 1973, and capping his career with an undefeated 5-0 campaign.

Swimming: Doris Beshunsky, ED'47, GED'48; Louis Kozloff, C'65, M'69.
Track & Field:Lawrance A. Brown, W'22; Nathaniel "Nate" J. Cartmell, W'07; Denis Elton Cochran-Fikes, C'74, WG'79 (Cross Country); Lawson Robertson (Coach, 1916-47).
Wrestling: David S. Pottruck, C'70, WG'72 (Football).
