For the Quakers, the only starter who was not previously a fixture in the starting lineup is junior forward Max Rothschild. After averaging 13.6 minutes per game and starting three games combined in his first two seasons at Penn, Rothschild has averaged 23.9 minutes per game this season, starting all 17 games. And so far, he has validated coach Steve Donahue’s decision to increase his role.

Penn football will host Princeton on Saturday as it clings to its slim Ivy League title hopes. While the Quakers (3-4, 1-3 Ivy) claimed their first Ivy win in Providence, R.I. against Brown last weekend, they do not control their destiny. They currently rank seventh behind three 3-1 teams and three 2-2 teams, including Princeton (5-2, 2-2).

Penn football fell to Columbia, 34-31 in overtime. The Lions (5-0, 2-0 Ivy) crawled back from a 21-7 deficit by scoring 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter before walking off in overtime on a 24-yard touchdown to wide receiver Josh Wainwright.

Penn men’s basketball will take a vacation over the next few weeks, with its next game coming December 28 against Drexel at the Palestra.

With 8:42 remaining in the second half, junior guard Darnell Foreman’s jumper put Penn within two points of George Mason at 57-55. Between that moment and senior guard Matt Howard’s free throw with 3:07 left, the Quakers scored zero points on nine missed shots and a turnover.

In the movie business, sequels rarely hold up to the original. It’s tough enough to make one good movie, and even more difficult to make another one with the same cast of characters. After entering the 2015 season ranked sixth in the Ivy League preseason media poll and dropping three of its first four games, Penn football won six straight to share the Ancient Eight title with Harvard and Dartmouth.

It’s tough for a defender to make a tackle while on the ground. Unfortunately for Penn football’s opponents, they have found themselves in that position often this season.

Big wins are great, but the encore is just as important. Penn sprint football will travel to New Hampshire for a Saturday afternoon clash with Franklin Pierce.
